Purdue head football coach Ryan Walters and the Boilermakers have reached into the state of Texas for its next prospect, offering Ryan High School (Texas) offensive lineman Marcus Garcia.

Garcia, a 6-foot-5-inch, 260-pound offensive lineman, is a standout in the Class of 2025 and also is an accomplished track and field athlete, as he throws the shot put and discus. He won the AAU Junior Olympics discus title and the USATF National Junior Olympic Championship in the discus as well last summer.

“It feels great. I am very grateful and blessed with any opportunity I receive, and I thank Purdue for recognizing me and offering me this opportunity,” Garcia told Boiler Wire shortly after his offer.

Garcia said the coaching staff liked his quick feet, along with the way he is able to sustain and finish blocks.  Garcia admits he is interested to learning more about Purdue.

“I do not know much about Purdue football yet, but I look forward to it in the days ahead. I can see that Coach Walters is a young coach with some tricks up his sleeve, so the sky is the limit for the program. The university is one of the most prestigious in STEM, so a Purdue degree is attractive,” said Garcia, who added he is looking to get to Purdue for a visit soon.

In addition to the offer from Purdue, Garcia holds offers from Boston College, Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, Duke, Florida State, Nebraska, and others. Heading into the upcoming season, Garcia says he has some lofty goals.

“It’ll be a big year for me going into my senior year. I am focused on getting stronger, quicker, using proper techniques, putting on clean weight, show up in July ready to go at 275-285 and mastering my position as I have only been playing tackle for one season. I want to be named a team captain, win district, win state, be named an All-American and attend the All-American Bowl,” Garcia said.
