Purdue Softball: Boilers to meet Hoosiers today in Big Ten Tourney

Published

on

For the Purdue softball team, there is hope as the Boilermakers enter the Big Ten Tournament today in Iowa City.

The Boilermakers missed out on the tournament a season ago, but Purdue softball will kick things off today as the ninth seed, taking on familiar foe, Indiana, the eighth seed. The two teams will play at noon today. First year head coach Meg Frezzotti’s team enters the Big Ten Tournament with a 25-26 record.

During the regular season, Indiana knocked off Purdue softball, 5-1, before the Boilermakers rallied back to take the second game, 6-5, last month.

The Boilermakers enter the postseason on a bit of a skid, after three tough outings against Michigan State. The Spartans swept the series at Purdue, knocking off the Boilers, 3-0, 1-0 and 2-1.

If Purdue softball should knock off the Hoosiers, it will play regular season champion Northwestern. The Boilermakers had success against the Wildcats this season, knocking off the Big Ten regular season champ, 2-1, and taking Northwestern to nine innings last month.
