Purdue Football: Boilers land 3-star Offensive Lineman

Proving that offensive line continues to be an importance under Purdue football coach Ryan Walters, the Boilermakers picked up a huge commitment Tuesday night.

Ta’Khyian Whitset, a three-star offensive lineman from Antioch, Tennessee, announced his commitment to Purdue football. He opted for the Boilers over the likes of Vanderbilt, East Carolina, UAB, Liberty and others. Purdue football was his first Big Ten offer. The 6-foot-5-inch, 265-pound standout has an official visit to West Lafayette slated for June.

Whitset told Boiler Wire that it was the feeling of “home” that helped sway his decision.

“I feel that the home feeling is incredibly big for me. Purdue made it feel like home from the day I received an offer,” Whitset said.

In addition, he said his relationship with offensive line coach Marcus Johnson also played a role.

“Secondly, the staff, Coach Johnson, in my opinion, is one of the best in the country at what he does. I feel he could be the guy to help get me to the next level and that is big for me,” Whitset said.

Whitset said he loves the scheme Purdue football is coming up with offensively.

“I feel that’s a great fit for my playing style, lots of pulling going on. There’s ways for me to show my athleticism and quickness,” Whitset said.

He is the sixth commitment in Purdue football’s Class of ’25, which is currently ranked 35th in the country.

Whitset admits it was important for him to commit before the season began.

“It’s really big. The recruiting process is a long and stressful process. I want to focus on my senior season and just be the best I can be — not just the best player I can be, but the best teammate I can be. Also, I want to be a leader in trying to make a run to this 6A state championship we’re trying to get,” he said.
