Purdue Women’s Basketball: Boilers fall at Indiana

It has been a major issue all season long for the Purdue women’s basketball — intensity and results seen at home not carrying over on the road.
Such was the case Sunday afternoon, as Purdue fell 95-62 at Indiana. The loss was the 11th straight for the Purdue women’s basketball team, who have not beaten Indiana since 2019 and have not won at Assembly Hall since 2012.
In the first meeting between the two teams, Indiana (20-3, 11-2) left Purdue (10-13, 3-9) with a 74-68 victory as the Boilermakers battled to the end. On Sunday, the intensity didn’t travel to Bloomington, much to the disappointment of Purdue women’s basketball coach Katie Gearlds.
“It’s 94 feet, the basket is 10 feet high and the free throw line is 15 feet. It doesn’t matter who you are or who you are playing. Basketball is the same no matter where you’re at,” Gearlds said after the loss.

Purdue played catch-up all day as IU’s Mackenzie Holmes makes history

Indiana opened with a 4-0 lead and took a four point advantage into the second quarter before settling in for a 41-30 halftime advantage. And, that’s where the game got away from Purdue, as the Hoosiers outscored Purdue 31-16 in the third to take complete control.
In the second half, the Boilermakers watched Indiana shoot 20-of-29 from the field.
Indiana senior Mackenzie Holmes scored 17 points and became Indiana’s career leading scorer.
For Purdue, Mary Ashley Stevenson led the way with 16 points for the Boilers, who also got 13 from senior Caitlyn Harper and 11 from freshman Sophie Swanson.
“We have to find a way to win on the road,” Gearlds said.
Purdue plays next at Northwestern Wednesday at 8 p.m.
