The Purdue football wide receivers room grew by one more on National Signing Day, as Fullerton Community College (CA) wide receiver Leland Smith committed to the Boilermakers.
Smith opted for Purdue over the likes of
Mississippi State, Coastal Carolina, Temple, Georgia Southern and Cincinnati. He previously played at TCU on a PWO before heading to Fullerton.
Earlier this year, Smith told
Boiler Wire about the relationship he was forming with the Purdue football staff.
“The thing that stands out the most would be the growth of the team towards the end of the year. While it would have been easy for a losing team to give up, they set the trajectory for this 2024 season in the right direction,” Smith said.
He added the relationship was one of the most important things in his process of finding a school.
Smith dazzles in one season at Fullerton
In one year at Fullerton, Smith, who is 6-foot-5-inches, recorded 26 catches for 655 yards and nine touchdowns. As for what the staff liked about his game, Smith said there were a few things.
“My combination of size and speed as well as my ability to track the ball and go up and catch it in traffic,” Smith said.
Smith will join a receivers room that had already added Georgia transfers De’Nylon Morrissette and CJ Smith, as well as former UCLA wide receiver Kam Brown from the transfer portal, along with adding four high school players to the room.
