Purdue Women’s Basketball: Boilers add SEC foe to schedule

Published

The Purdue women’s basketball team found out a portion of its 2024-25 non-conference schedule recently.

The Boilermakers will take on SEC foe Kentucky Dec. 14 at Mackey Arena. It marks the first time the Wildcats have played inside Mackey Arena. Furthermore, it marks the first of a home and home series with Kentucky. Purdue women’s basketball will make the journey to Kentucky during the 2025-26 campaign.

Purdue women’s basketball holds a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series. The last time the two teams played was in 2000, as the Boilermakers picked up an 87-67 victory over the Wildcats.

While Katie Gearlds is back as head coach of Purdue women’s basketball, Kentucky will enter the season with a new coach and several new faces. The Wildcats managed to lure Kenny Brooks away from Virginia Tech and he brought talented players Georgia Amoore and Clara Strack with him. Amoore was an All-American last season with the Hokies.

A familiar face will also be on the sidelines, as Kentucky features former Purdue star Lindsey Hicks. Hicks serves as the associate head coach for the Wildcats and was a member of the 2001 Purdue team that reached the national title game.

Purdue women’s basketball finished the 2023-24 season with a 67-59 loss to Vermont in the WNIT Great 8. The loss left the Boilermakers with a 15-19 campaign under Gearlds.
