For the first time in Big Ten women’s basketball tournament history, the Purdue women’s basketball team will play in front of a sold out crowd.
The Big Ten Tournament announced Friday the women’s basketball tournament at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, has sold out for every game from March 6-10. The seating capacity at the Target Center is 19,356.
One major reason for the sellout is the draw Iowa standout Caitlyn Clark brings to the game. Iowa is the defending tournament champion.
In addition to Iowa, second ranked Ohio State and 14th ranked Indiana are considered favorites to capture the title. As for the NCAA Tournament, Iowa, Ohio State, Indiana, Michigan, Penn State, Maryland, Nebraska and Michigan State are expected to see their name called for the NCAA Tournament, according to ESPN’s Charlie Creme.
As for the Purdue women’s basketball, the Boilermakers fell 68-59 this week against Michigan State. In the loss, Abbey Ellis scored 22 points, while Sophie Swanson finished with 19 points and drained five three pointers.
Purdue women’s basketball is currently 11-15, 4-11 and will take on Wisconsin (13-12, 6-9) Sunday. The Boilermakers knocked off the Badgers, 89-50, on Dec. 30.
