Purdue has reached into the Buckeye State and offered Cincinnati Moeller High School standout tight end Cooper McCutchan. McCutchan, a Class of 2026 tight end who is also a forward for the basketball team. McCutchan is 6-foot-4-inches, 225 pounds and has a 79-inch wingspan.
“Receiving this offer felt great. It’s such a great opportunity to play at Purdue on the biggest stage,” McCutchan told Boiler Wire. “It is an opportunity to go to one of the top schools in the country. Purdue has a great history. I want to be part of building something special.”
McCutchan said while he hasn’t watched a Purdue game, he is familiar with the program and wants to get a taste of the environment at Ross Ade Stadium soon.
“I watched some videos and the energy looked awesome. I can’t wait to get to a game,” McCutchan said.
Playing at Moeller, McCutchan played against some of the premiere talent both in Indiana and Ohio this past season, as Moeller took on three of the best teams from Indiana. He said the Purdue staff told him they “really loved” his film.
“I play at Moeller and every game is against a top team. I love that Coach Walters is young, and he’s going to build a team to compete in the Big Ten,” McCutchan said.
McCutchan sees recruiting take off
In addition to the offer from Purdue, he has hauled in offers from the likes of Vanderbilt, Boston College, Toledo, Miami (OH), Georgia Tech and Cincinnati, among others. Purdue is the first Big Ten program to offer the young tight end.
“I am very fortunate that recruiting has taken off. It has been a blast to attend a bunch of game days and meet and handful of coaches in the past few months. Every school I’ve visited so far has something that makes them special,” McCutchan said.
He said it is surprising how quickly his recruiting has blown up.
“I am surprised it’s happening so fast. I feel like I have all the tools to be a top tier tight end, and just have to keep working,” McCutchan said.
McCutchan has a visit to Purdue planned and said he wants to learn more about his position coach while in West Lafayette.
“I also want to learn more about how the offense is run and how the tight ends are utilized. It will be a great opportunity to see how the program is run. Also, I’m excited to see the campus and facilities,” McCutchan said.
