The Purdue football team kept another in-state prospect home, as Plainfield (IN) linebacker/hybrid edge Landon Drennan committed to Ryan Walters and the Boilermakers.
The decision came shortly after he received a Preferred Walk-On Opportunity from Purdue after decommitting from Air Force.
“It feels great. It is very refreshing and feels like a weight off my shoulders,” Drennan told Boiler Wire.
He opted for Purdue football over the likes of Air Force, Dayton and Eastern Kentucky, among others.
“I am thankful Coach Dennison believes in me and my talent to earn a scholarship at a program as good as Purdue,” Drennan said.
Purdue football presents a challenge for Drennan
As for what set the Boilermakers apart, Drennan said the opportunity to prove himself and earn a scholarship.
“I like challenges and I like competing. I didn’t want to know what it would be like not competing at the highest level, thinking “what if I would’ve or could’ve played at a Power 5 Big Ten school.” Life is short and, as humans, I think making the most out of what we’re capable of, is important,” Drennan said.
The Indiana Football Coaches Association Top 50 honoree finished his senior season with 73 tackles and four sacks. Over his career, Drennan accounted for 256 tackles, 29 tackles for a loss, 15 sacks, nine fumble recoveries and six forced fumbles.
“I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little nervous,” Drennan said. “I’m not concerned at all because I know what I bring to the table. The coaching staff would not have offered me if they didn’t believe I could play at this level.”
