At 6-foot-6-inches, Purdue women’s basketball commit Avery Gordon has the look of a college basketball player already. The Brownsburg (IN) junior center looks to capture another sectional title when the Bulldogs take on Plainfield Feb. 2 in the Indiana High School Girl’s Basketball State Tournament.
In the opener, Gordon showed why she is one of the best junior players not only in Indiana, but in the country, as recorded her ninth double double of the season. She finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds to help lift Brownsburg to a 74-42 win over Avon.
“This season has gone pretty good so far. We won some games that we didn’t last year. Although we have definitely had some struggles this season, I know for certain, we are moving in the right direction because we are all working hard in practice and we are becoming closer as a team,” Gordon told Boiler Wire.
Last year, Gordon, who is ranked 42nd nationally in her class by ESPN and is a four-star recruit, selected the Boilermakers over the likes of Iowa, Michigan and Ohio State, among others. Gordon is one of three in-state players with a national ranking to commit to Purdue, as the Boilermakers also have commitments from South Bend Washington’s Kira Reynolds (ranked 59th by ESPN in Class of 2025) and Fort Wayne Snider’s Jordyn Poole (ranked 54th by ESPN in Class of 2024).
“Purdue really values education and they are able to give me multiple opportunities to succeed, both athletically and academically. Purdue is also close to home, which has always been a factor since my family is so important to me and being able to have them close and at my games means a lot. It is going to be exciting to be able to play in my home state,” Gordon said.
