The Purdue women’s basketball team gave 16th ranked Indiana all it wanted and then some Sunday afternoon.
However, when the dust settled Indiana held Purdue’s upset bid at bay, picking up a 74-68 win over the Boilermakers.
The win was the 10th straight in the series for Indiana, while the Boilermakers(9-9, 2-5) dropped their fourth straight.

With Indiana playing without star Sydney Parrish, Purdue came out on fire, taking the game to the Hoosiers. Indiana answered with the three headed monster of Chloe Moore-McNeil, Yarden Garzon and Sara Scalia. The three combined for 57 points and hit 14 of Indiana’s 15 three pointers. Moore-McNeil and Scalia led the way with 20 points each, while Garzon added 17. Mackenzie Holmes added 15 points in the win for Indiana.

The two teams would trade baskets early before a pair of three pointers from Madison Layden and Caitlyn Harper put Purdue ahead 12-9. Indiana fired right back, with a 6-0 run, but Purdue was far from being done. The Boilermakers utilized a 14-2 run to go ahead 26-17 with just over a minute left in the first quarter as Purdue hit shots, controlled the basketball and kept Indiana off the glass.

A basket from freshman guard Rashunda Jones would put the Boilermakers ahead 29-22 after one quarter, but Indiana came right back, utilizing a run in the second quarter to take control.

Indiana continued its hot streak in the early moments of the third quarter, as the Hoosiers went on a 10-0 run, holding Purdue scoreless for five minutes. Jones single handedly brought Purdue back, scoring on a layup and a 35 foot jumper to put the Boilermakers ahead going into the fourth.

That’s when Scalia, Holmes and Moore McNeil took over for Indiana, combining to stretch the lead to 61-56 with under seven minutes to play.

Purdue would close the gap to 69-63 with four minutes remaining, but Indiana held Purdue without a field goal down the stretch.

Caitlyn Harper paced the Boilermakers with 18 points, while Mary Ashley Stevenson and Rashunda Jones each scored 13. Madison Layden and Abbey Ellis each scored 10.

The Boilermakers will travel to Michigan State Wednesday, Jan. 24, for a 6:30 p.m. tip from the Breslin Center.
