Purdue Football: Where does Card stack up among Big Ten QBs?

Published

A recent report by Steven Lassan, of Athlon Sports, had mixed results for Purdue football quarterback Hudson Card.

Lassan wrote an article ranking the Big Ten quarterbacks for the upcoming 2024. With the addition of Southern California, Oregon, UCLA and Washington to the Big Ten, Lassan wrote the new conference is “filled with uncertainty at the quarterback position.”

Of the 18 teams in the conference this season, 14 could start a transfer under center this season. Lassan wrote to compile the rankings, there was some projection involved for the season. He ranked Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel as the top quarterback in the conference, pointing to the fact this season will be Gabriel’s sixth at the college level. Coming into this year, Gabriel has thrown for just under 15,000 yards and 125 touchdowns.

Penn State’s Drew Allar, Ohio State’s Will Howard, Southern California’s Miller Moss, and Washington’s Will Rogers round out the top five.

Aidan Chiles, who transferred from Oregon State, comes in at number six after transferring to Michigan State. Nebraska freshman Dylan Raiola is seventh, followed by Wisconsin’s Tyler Van Dyke, and Michigan’s Alex Orji.

Purdue football quarterback Hudson Card is ranked 10th.

“Card was one of a few bright spots for a Purdue team that finished 4-8 in coach Ryan Walters’ debut last fall,” Lassan wrote.

A season ago, Card threw for 2,387 yards and 15 touchdowns, while rushing for 203 yards and five trips to the end zone on the ground while battling injuries.

“The Austin native struggled in games against ranked opponents, but closed out the ’23 season on a high note with strong performances against Minnesota and Indiana,” Lassan wrote.

Purdue football opens the 2024 season at Ross-Ade Stadium on Aug. 31 against Indiana State.
