Purdue Football: Pair of Boilers hit the transfer portal

Purdue football has lost two players to the spring football portal.

Defensive back Ethon Cole and running back Christian Womack have begun the process of exploring more options, placing their names in the NCAA transfer portal.

Cole is a Florida native, who chose Purdue football over the likes of Indiana, Minnesota and Duke. He arrived in West Lafayette a three star prospect in the Class of ’23. However, he did not play in 2023 and will have four years of eligibility at his next school.

Womack was also a Class of ’23 recruit for Purdue football. He did not play during his freshman season. With that said, he did rush 10 times for 47 yards in the spring game last week.

Womack will also have four years of eligibility with his next venture.

Purdue football coach Ryan Walters, who went 4-8 in his first season last year, said the Boilermakers are working to put together a championship caliber roster.

“Who knows, right? It’s like Wall Street and you have to go with the market. I am sure we will have some guys in the portal we didn’t expect, but I like our locker room right now. I think the locker room likes being here and the way program is structured, but who knows. We will be ready for whatever transpires. We will take advantage of the rules and put together the best roster possible to chase a championship,” Walters said of what would happen with his team and the portal.

The Boilermakers will open the season Aug. 31 at home against Indiana State.
