Purdue football added the commitment of JUCO star Leland Smith Wednesday.
The Purdue football coaching staff has made huge additions to its wide receiver room during the offseason, and they may not be done yet.
Leland Smith, a wide receiver at Fullerton Community College (Cal.) recently dropped his top six schools on social media and the list was: Purdue, Mississippi State, Cincinnati, Temple, Coastal Carolina and Georgia Southern.
Smith, who hails from Texas, told BoilerWire it has been “great” forming a relationship with the Purdue football staff.
“The thing that stands out the most would be the growth of the team towards the end of the year. While it would have been easy for a losing team to give up, they set the trajectory for this 2024 season in the right direction,” Smith said.
He added the relationship is one of the most important things in his process of finding a school.
“I have a great relationship with Coach Patt (Cory Patterson) and the thing I want to learn more about Purdue would be the different avenues off the field that would propel me in life,” Smith admitted.

Smith dazzles in one season at Fullerton

In one year at Fullerton, Smith, who is 6-foot-5-inches, recorded 26 catches for 655 yards and nine touchdowns. As for what the staff liked about his game, Smith said there were a few things.
“My combination of size and speed as well as my ability to track the ball and go up and catch it in traffic,” Smith said.
Smith will visit Purdue Feb. 2 and will make a decision in the days following.

As for the Boilermakers, they have garnered commitments from Georgia transfers De’Nylon Morrissette and CJ Smith, as well as former UCLA wide receiver Kam Brown from the transfer portal, along with adding four high school players to the room.
