Purdue Football: Hudson Card ready for big season at QB

A season ago, Purdue football quarterback Hudson Card showed what he was capable of at times, but injuries limited the signal caller.

Card helped guide the Boilermakers to a 4-8 record, but showed plenty of poise and success in helping Purdue football knock off Indiana and claim the Old Oaken Bucket.

Now, he is ready to put the lessons learned during the offseason to work as the redshirt senior and head coach Ryan Walters enter their second season together.

A season ago, Card was 215-of-365 for 2,387 yards, 15 touchdowns and eight interceptions. The Texas native finished the season ranked third in the Big Ten in passing yards per game at 217. He added another 203 yards and five touchdowns on 93 carries.

Walters said Card enters spring practice this year with complete control of the huddle and locker room.

“It’s his locker room. Think guys really respect him as a leader. He has much more understanding and command of the offense. He’s looking like QB1,” Walters said.

To help keep Card upright this season, Purdue football hit the transfer portal hard, adding Joey Tanona (Notre Dame), Joshua Sales (Indiana), Corey Stewart (Ball State) and DJ Wingfield (New Mexico).
