Purdue Diving: Boilers see change at the top of program

A familiar face will be taking over the coaching duties for the Purdue diving program.

David Boudia will be the new coach after Adam Soldati announced he is stepping down after being diagnosed with ALS. Purdue athletics made the announcement this week. Soldati will remain with Purdue diving as the director of diving.

“As I reflect on my past 19 years with our Boilermaker family, I am overcome with gratitude and thankfulness,” Soldati said in a statement. “I rejoice in the relationships that (wife) Kimiko, our children and I have built here at Purdue and in greater Lafayette. We have nothing but the greatest love and respect for so many people who have been part of our lives.”

Soldati learned of his diagnosis in February, and his team was told of his condition after the swimming and diving season ended in April.

Both Soldati, Boudia know something about success with Purdue diving

Under Soldati, Purdue diving made huge gains. The Boilermakers captured 14 national diving championships since 2009. At the national level, 34 of Soldati’s divers claimed titles.

Boudia joined the Purdue diving staff as a full time assistant in 2021, knowing he was a coach in waiting.

He is no stranger to the Boilermakers or success. Boudia is a three time Olympian and has claimed four medals. In 2012, he won the gold in the 10-meter in London. During his time with Purdue, Boudia was a six time NCAA champion and earned eight Big Ten titles. In addition, he won the CSCAA Diver of the Year honor three times.
