Another day, another accolade for Purdue basketball standout Zach Edey.
The senior center was one of 15 players selected to the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year watch list, as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club. The honor goes to the nation’s top defensive player, and a year ago, Edey was a top ten finalist for the honor.
Joining Edey from the Big Ten on the list is Penn State’s Ace Baldwin and Rutgers’ Cliff Omoruyi.
In Purdue basketball’s recent win over Wisconsin, Edey collected his 200th career block, putting him in rare company with Patrick Ewing and David Robinson as the other players in NCAA history to score 2,000 career points, garner 1,000 career rebounds and 200 career blocks while shooting at least 60 percent from the field.
In 23 games this season for Purdue basketball, Edey has blocked at least one shot in 22 of them. The senior currently ranks third nationally in scoring with 23.1 points per game, fourth in rebounds with 11.7 and 14th in blocked shots with 2.3 blocks.
In addition to the National Defensive Player of the Year Watch List, Edey was also on the Late Season Top 20 list for the Wooden Award.
Purdue will host Indiana Saturday at 8 p.m. in Mackey Arena.
