Purdue Basketball: Zach Edey makes history again

Another game, another historic performance from Purdue basketball center Zach Edey.

While there was plenty of talk before Saturday’s national semi-final against N.C. State of Edey matching up against N.C. State big man DJ Burns Jr., Edey absolutely dominated the card, as the reigning National Player of the Year got the best of the Wolfpack standout.

“Big Maple” paced the Boilermakers with 20 points, 12 rebounds and four assists, as Purdue basketball knocked off N.C. State, 63-50, punching its ticket to Monday’s national championship game. The double double performance was a record breaking sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament game with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds, passing Navy’s David Robinson.

Of his 20 points, 14 came in the first half, as Edey saw the Wolfpack throw a mix of Burns, Mohammad Diarra and Ben Middlebrooks at Edey throughout the contest. Burns finished with eight points in the loss.

Edey and Purdue basketball will look to continue making history Monday night, as they seek a national championship and make the first appearance in the title game for the Boilermakers since 1969. Purdue basketball will take on the winner of Alabama vs. UConn, which was slated to play later Saturday night.
