Purdue basketball big man Zach Edey has done it again.

Another game, another historic performance, as Edey passed Purdue legend Rick Mount to become the all-time leading scorer Saturday against Wisconsin.

The reigning National Player-of-the-Year finished with 28 points in a loss against the Badgers. His scoring output leaves him with 2,339 points going into the NCAA Tournament. Mount scored 2,323 points from 1967 to 1970 for Purdue basketball. Edey is also Purdue’s career rebounding leader with 1,223 and sits at fourth in blocked shots with 218.

Purdue basketball coach Matt Painter said Edey has been “fabulous” during his career with the Boilermakers.

“It is fabulous. To be all time leading scorer and rebounder at a school like Purdue with great basketball tradition is unbelievable. For him to be able to do that and be humble — he is a good teammate, selfless, he’s competitive. He’s everything that you want in a player. I’ve never seen somebody so good get so much shit for no reason. It blows my mind. People his size are normally not good at basketball. He’s really good, so he gets a lot of attention but he stayed grounded. He keeps his composure. We’re proud of him for everything he has accomplished,” Painter told the media after Purdue’s loss Saturday in the Big Ten Tournament.

Purdue basketball point guard Braden Smith echoed Painter’s sentiments about Edey.

“It’s unbelievable. We are all super proud of him. He’s worked his butt off to get here. He will never take credit and points to us and says we helped him get here,” Smith said.

Edey and Purdue will find out who they play in the NCAA Tournament Sunday evening.
