Purdue Basketball: Tough non-conference slate set for Boilers

Published

on

Fresh off an NCAA title game appearance, the Purdue basketball team has set its non-conference slate and it features quite a few interesting matchups.

The Boilermakers, which will look different without big man Zach Edey in the middle, will find themselves in several marquee games against Alabama, Maquette, Texas A&M and Auburn.

Purdue basketball has finalized its nonconference schedule for the 2024-25 college basketball season. The team released the out-of-league slate on Tuesday morning. Head coach Matt Painter will also lead the Boilermakers into the Rady Children’s Invitational, which features the likes of BYU, N.C. State and Mississippi in addition to Purdue. The Rady Children’s Invitational initially consisted of Purdue, Notre Dame, Arkansas and BYU, but the Irish and Razorbacks both dropped out.

Purdue basketball and N.C. State are quite familiar with each other. The two teams played in last year’s Final Four, with the Boilermakers earning a 63-50 victory in the national semi-final.

Both teams will look different when they hit the hardwood for the event. Purdue men’s basketball, obviously, has lost big man Zach Edey to graduation, while the Wolfpack lost DJ Burns, DJ Horne and more from last year’s ACC Championship winning squad.

The Boilermakers and Marquette also know each other well. This past season, Purdue basketball knocked off Marquette, 78-75, in the Maui Invitational title game. A year before, the Boilermakers knocked off the Golden Eagles, 75-70, in West Lafayette. The two teams were on a potential collision course this past year in the NCAA Tournament, but N.C. State knocked off the Golden Eagles to earn a spot against Purdue in the Final Four.
Purdue basketball also played Alabama last year, as the Boilermakers knocked off the Crimson Tide.
The Boilermakers will host Grand Valley State in an exhibition on Oct. 30 before opening the 2024-25 season up at Mackey Arena against Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Games with Northern Kentucky, Yale, Marshall and Toledo also highlight the non-conference portion of the season.
