Purdue Basketball: Injuries hamper Edey during Summer

Published

on

As a player with Purdue basketball, big man Zach Edey was a constant force in the paint for the Boilermakers and hardly missed any time on the floor.

That, however, has not been the case now that he has moved onto the NBA and is a member of the Memphis Grizzlies. Already having missed time with a left ankle injury, Edey left Thursday’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans after landing awkwardly in the second quarter.

Edey attempted to block a shot in the second quarter of NBA 2K25 Summer League action between the Grizzlies and Pelicans, but an awkward landing sent him to the bench and later the locker room.

The former Purdue basketball star finished with six points, three rebounds and a block. In his only other action this season, which was the Summer League opener on July 8, Edey finished with 14 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks before leaving with an ankle injury against the Utah Jazz. That performance against Utah propelled Edey up the charts as a favorite to garner the NBA Rookie of the Year honors this upcoming season.

Edey was a two-time National Player of the Year while with Purdue basketball. He left the Boilermakers as the program’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder. He also led the Boilermakers to two Big Ten regular season titles and an appearance in the 2024 National Championship Game.
