Another day, another award Purdue basketball center Zach Edey is in the running for.
Edey was named a finalist for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award, which is given to the nation’s top center, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Friday.
Being a finalist for the honor is nothing new for Edey, who won the distinction last year. The Purdue basketball big man is joined by Kansas’ Hunter Dickinson, Creighton’s Ryan Kalkbrenner, North Carolina’s Armando Bacot and Clemson’s P.J. Hall as finalists.
Edey enters Sunday’s regular season finale against Wisconsin averaging 21.4 points, 11.7 rebounds, 2.2 blocks and 1.9 assists while shooting 62 percent. Edey is 26 points and 50 rebounds away from becoming the fifth player in NCAA history with two seasons of at least 750 points and 400 rebounds.
Edey is second in Purdue basketball history for career scoring and is 66 points away from tying Rick Mount for the all-time career scoring record.
Purdue basketball hosts Wisconsin Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Mackey Arena.
