With about a month to go until Selection Sunday, the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee unveiled its current Top 16 seeds on Saturday, and it was great news for the Purdue basketball team.

The Boilermakers are the overall 1-seed in the NCAA tournament’s selection committee’s bracket preview. Defending national champion UConn was given the overall 2-seed. Also getting number one spots were Houston and Arizona.

Earning two seeds were North Carolina, Tennessee, Marquette and Kansas, while Alabama, Baylor, Iowa State and Duke locked up three seeds. Auburn, San Diego State, Illinois and Wisconsin drew four seeds to round out the top 16.

A season ago, the Purdue basketball team drew a 1 seed only to fall to 16th seed Fairleigh Dickinson in the opener. It marked only the second time a 16th seed knocked off a top seed.

Joining Purdue basketball in the Midwest Region were: Tennessee, Baylor and San Diego State. UConn was joined by North Carolina, Iowa State and Wisconsin in the East Region. The South featured Houston, Marquette, Alabama and Illinois, while Arizona, Kansas, Duke and Auburn were the top four seeds in the West Region.

The Boilermakers have not lost since Jan. 9 and travel to Ohio State on February 18.
